The Revd Prof Sarah Coakley celebrant at High Mass

We were delighted that the Revd Professor Sarah Coakley celebrated the High Mass at St Barnabas on Sunday 27 August, the twelfth Sunday after Trinity. Mthr Sarah has had a long association with St Barnabas, ever since she began teaching as a Fellow at Oriel College Oxford. Together with her husband Chip, she now spends the summer vacations in Oxford. The rest of the time they live in Washington DC. Mthr Sarah is an Honorary Assistant Priest at St Barnabas. Due to the changes in our liturgical and pastoral arrangements earlier in 2023, it is now possible for women to celebrate Mass here. The first woman to celebrate Mass at St Barnabas was the Revd Dr Melanie Marshall, in April.

Mthr Sarah also preached at the High Mass on Sunday 6 August, the Feast of the Transfiguration. You can read her sermon here.

Let us give thanks for the gift of the Eucharist and for our freedom to share in this Sacrament together.
