Rorate Mass at St Thomas the Martyr

  • St Thomas the Martyr Oxford Saint Thomas' Street Oxford, England, OX1 United Kingdom (map)

The Rorate Mass, sometimes called ‘The Golden Mass’ is a special and hugely symbolic Mass of Our Lady in Advent. Normally held at dawn, we opt to hold the service in the evening. The Mass is on the Eve of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and is held entirely by candle-light.

The Mass is an ancient Advent tradition that takes its name from the first word of the Introit: Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant iustum, “Drop down dew, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down righteousness.”
