New Organist and Director of Music

We are delighted to announce that Esther Bersweden has been appointed as the new Organist and Director of Music of St Barnabas Jericho.  You can read more about Esther here

Esther is a published composer, teacher, choral conductor and organist currently based in Bristol, where she directs the Avon Chamber Choir. Formerly Organ Scholar of St Paul’s Church in Clifton, Esther will oversee all of the musical life and mission of Oxford’s Basilica. She will direct the St Barnabas Schola Cantorum and oversee the formation of the choristers.

The Vicar of St Barnabas, Fr Christopher Woods, said

In searching for a new Director of Music, I knew we needed to find someone who would be spiritually in tune with our rich liturgical life as well as musically gifted and dedicated. In Esther, I am convinced we have found such a person, and I am thrilled that she will be our new Organist and Director of Music.”

Esther said,

“I am delighted to be taking up this position in such a unique and music-conscious church. I am looking forward to getting to know the Schola Cantorum and choristers,  and working with them as St Barnabas continues to move forward in its musical and liturgical life.”

Esther will join us at the end of September.
